Arches National Park

Hike

Not really sure how to list these hikes on this longer post. I did a bunch of them in the park. I will just link to the park hiking page. On the first day I hiked a bit of Park Avenue, Balanced Rock, Double Arch, The Windows, Delicate Arch Viewpoint, and finally Delicate Arch. On my second day I hiked Sand Dune Arch, Broken Arch, Skyline Arch, and Devil’s Garden taking the Primitive Trail loop back. I hiked roughly 15 miles over the whole weekend.

Drink

Of course I grabbed some beer from the Moab Brewery. (Well, not from the actual brewery. I tried to eat dinner there but the wait was over an hour and I was starving from a long day.) I just bought a mix case that had Moab Brewery’s Pilsner and Dead Horse Amber Ale. I also had a few beers at The Blu Pig when I had dinner, but I do not remember what I had. I do remember The Blu Pig was tasty and they had a full bar and live blues. Good times!

On the Road
I love hitting the open road.

The Windows
The Windows. It started to rain so the crowds cleared out. Perfect hiking weather for a ginger with a beer.

Trail to Sand Dune Arch
Trail to Sand Dune Arch. I had a lady snap a few pictures of me at the arch, but apparently she didn’t know how to work my camera.
Broken Arch and Me
Broken Arch and me. I didn’t grab a beer yet because it was a really short hike to the arch and I needed to drive to the next hike.
Skyline Arch
Skyline Arch. I hiked below it and took a few pictures, but this one shows how it got its name.

View from Partition Arch
View from Partition Arch. I was sitting in the shade just inside the arch looking out over the valley and sipping a beer. A bit of solitude away from the crowds. One of my best memories from the trip.
Drink at Navajo Arch
Drink at Navajo Arch. It is the little arch behind that dead tree.

Me On the Dragon's Fin
I believe this was called the Dragon’s Fin. It looks pretty wide in the picture, but the drop off on each side was a bit scary.
Drink At Not Double O Arch
I thought those little arches in the background were Double O Arch, but they are not. I still don’t know what they are called, but I’ll drink to them.
Silly Critter on Black Arch Sign
Reminder not to take life too seriously.
Drink At Black Arch
Drink At Black Arch, that little black cave way down across the valley.
Me At Double O Arch
Me At Double O Arch. My beer is all gone. Piss poor planning. Though one should only drink so much beer when hiking in the desert.
Primitive Trail Sign
They are not lying. The trail involved a ton of scrambling and was a bit sketch at times, but aren’t all adventures?
Me At Private Arch
Me At Private Arch. This was really starting to get off the beaten path. I saw one other couple in like half an hour.
Lost In There
This was the last picture I took before my battery died. I felt like I was lost in there for way too long. This is where I first learned how to follow cairns. I have seen them before, but I could always follow the trail without them. But not in there. Luckily I had plenty of water and eventually I ran into another group of people headed the same way and we found our way back together.
